Android 4.0.3 ICS Based CyanogenMod 9 For Your Xperia X8, X10 Mini, X10 Mini Pro [How-To]

Good news for owners of Sony’s Xperia, they can install CM9 on their devices, thanks to XDA member “paul-xxx”, who has released CyanogenMod 9 based on Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich for your Xperia X8, X10 Mini and X10 Mini Pro. Just follow below steps to install it on your device. But first please note that your device should be rooted with ClockworkMod recovery installed, its battery should be charged, and please make a backup of your device’s data such as SMS, contacts, music files etc, because the below procedure will wipe all data.

DISCLAIMER: The below method is bit risky and we will not be held responsible if you lose data or your device gets damaged in the following of this guide so please proceed at your own risk.

Installation Guide

Step #1: Download the CyanogenMod 9 ROM to PC for your device: X8 / W8 here  for  X10 Mini here and for X10 Mini Pro here.

Step #2: Connect the device with PC using USB cable.

Step #3: Transfer the downloaded file to your device’s internal storage / sdcard, be sure to place directly under SD card directory.

Step #4: Turn the device off.

Step #5: Reboot into recovery mode by pressing and hold a specific combination of buttons to boot into ClockworkMod (CWM) Recovery. Since this combination is different for different devices, you’ll have to find it yourself, you can search from Google.

Step #6: In recovery mode, create a nandroid backup of your current ROM, it’s important because if anything not work out that you expect from this ROM, you’ll be able to easily revert back to your current state. To create backup select “Backup and Restore”, and then select “Backup” again.

Step #7: From main menu, wipe data/factory reset and wipe cache and wipe Dalvik cache from under the advanced menu.

Step #8: Select install zip from sdcard > choose zip from sdcard > that you copied in step 3.

Step #9: Return to main menu and select reboot system now. Your device will boot into CyanogenMod 9 based on Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich. That’s it enjoy!
